The Best Thai Cooking School
Amazing day learning to cook Thai food in the county! We learned all about the excellent vegetables and spices that grow here! This summer I am gonna have the best garden! I can’t wait to plant. It was so inspiring! We started by stopping at a local market where our host - the driver and chef - showed us the amazing veggies and spices we were going to be using to cook with. We all selected 4 dishes we wanted to learn to cook as well everyone got to make Phad Thai, Papaya Salad and of course mango and sticky rice! Omg it was so, so good!
The lovely couple (Chris ans Charlie) we met in Siem Reap recommended it, as she’s a vegetarian as well and they were great at accommodating. Great spot and a nice break from the city!
The place is great, the kitchen is huge and everyone gets their own cooking station. It is located on a farm where they grow their own veggies, herbs and rice! We got to go up to the rice paddy’s and see the different stages of rice growing. We were also able to beat the rice plants that where harvested and point the kernels to separate the skins. So cool! I always wondered about rice? Now I know!
We all made different dishes so everyone (expect me due to the whole vegetarian thing) could sample the dishes. I made hot and sour soup with tofu, Mark made rice soup and the boys made coconut based chicken and prawn soup. It all tasted so good!
For the papaya salad I was able to make my own separate Mordor full of the delicious goodness as I had mine without fish sauce (soya instead). Just so good!!! You can make it with cucumbers, green mango and all sorts of veg from home. I’m so going to eat this all summer long! She threw three chillies in mine and boy was it HOT! Spicy delicious - or aw-Roy as thy say in Thai!
The Phad thia we made in an egg omelet and it was so so sooooooo good!
Kids made a curry dish as well and mark and I made red and green curry. So full and happy! And ready to make all of this at home. China town I hope you have what we need. Our garden is going to include long beans, and coriander for sure!!!!
Oh and the last dish we made created massive flames! It was insane and the one dish we will NOT be making at home!
