Riding in the back of pickup trucks
Good bye Riding in the back of pickup trucks
Today we are off for a night in Koh Samui - the largest of the three islands in the gulf of Thailand. The airport in also on this island. We’re going to spend a night near the beach and then fly to Krabi on Saturday to discover the southern parts of Thailand and try new food!
Hey
The methods of travel on the island are large pickup trucks that load baggage, scuba gear and people into the back truck bed. You can also travel by water taxi and scooters. There is one busy intersection near Sairee Beach and otherwise the traffic is pretty easy as there’s not that many people driving around. The one t in the road at Sairee is pretty intense though! Especially when you add the dogs running beside their owners trying to jump on to their scooters! Lol
It’s funny because the expats who live here will carry their dogs on their scooters (even a couple of large dogs) while the Thai locals tend to have the dogs run with them beside the scooter. Dogs! We miss our Ruby!
Koh Tao was incredible. Very relaxed and beautiful. It was kind of weird though as it had an extremely high ratio of expats to thai people. There was also a lot of western food - tons of burger places and a couple of Mexican restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised there wasn’t more dead fish (seafood) restaurants. There were always vegetarian options so I guess a lot of the people on the island like fish the way I do; alive and happy in their underwater wonder world!
