Smokey Luang Prabang, Laos

The flight here was interesting. We flew Laos Airlines. They will not allow baggage over 7kgs as carryon so Mark and I had to check our bags. Which ended up being fine, the plane was super small. We stopped over in the capital of Laos (Dev said it’s the smallest airport he’s ever been in. At the stop over they do the entry Visas. Canadians are the most expensive at $42 US to get in - each!! Most of the other visas ranged in price from $10-35. Even Americans pay $35. So wierd. Mark had to go into the airport to get cash twice because they would only give out kip (Laos currency) and we had no idea what the conversion was at the moment. We didn’t think we’d be doing the visas so soon.
The flight was up and down. They had no vegetarian options though probably a ¼ of the people on the flight asked for it. I had a Laos beer which was fun. Of course when we got back on the flight I asked for a beer and they looked at me like they’d never heard of such a thing “we don’t have any beer” they said. Ugh - so weird!

As a side note I finished “The Heart Goes Last” by Margaret Atwood on the flight. Great book! I read Education by Tara Wentworth at the beginning of the trip. Also excellent (Mark and Dev also really enjoyed it! So fascinating).
So it’s very smokey here! I noticed it at stop over, and my eyes can feel it a bit. Apparently, March is when they burn rice stalks and things. It’s pretty gross and so sad it’s on purpose! After our road trip this summer through the wildfires if North America i wasn’t looking for any more smoke.
We have a lovely house air bnb near downtown which is great to walk to the night market and restaurants. It’s pretty weird as it’s down an alley with a gate, but seems like a nice community of homes.
