Phare Cambodian Circus
The cirque style circus started out of refugee camps after the war. The circus entertainers are kids who have been trained and educated through the Phare program which helps treating the kids, and provides a source of income through entertainment for the youth to providefor their family (and still getting an education!) A must do in Siem Reap.
They are super talented and perform some incredible feats! Incredible acrobatics, with a small cast and live music. The instruments are a mix of traditional and contemporary and are also played by the students coming out of the program.
I would love to see more circus training provided to more youth throughout the world. So many kids could benefit from having more physical activities like this in their daily lives. It’s great because it’s incorporated with arts including visual and musical!
Really loved this! It’s like a very low budget cirque show. And the youth are so extremely talented!

More than just a circus, Phare performers use theater, music, dance and modern circus arts to tell uniquely Cambodian stories; historical, folk and modern. The young circus artists will astonish you with their energy, emotion, enthusiasm and talent.
Phare artists are students and graduates from Phare Ponleu Selpak’s (www.phareps.org) vocational training center in Battambang.
