Hoi An an Ancient Town

We took a Grab car to Hoi An and our new hotel - Pearl River. It's gorgeous! And it's cheaper then the hotel in Da Nang. For $60 US a night we have a two bedroom hotel room, with two balconies, wifi and really great breakfast with HOT coffee! The last place only served it cold and you had to add hot water.
The hotel is at the end of a river path and is about a 20 minute (1.2km) walk into the ancient town of Hoi An. Along the walkway there are lots of restaurants, one shack with 24 hour gambling, and a spas. We checked in and then went to take the shuttle golf art into town. As soon as we sat in the cart the tire blew -hisssssssssssss, so we walked into town to get cash at the ATM so we could eat. The town starts at the bridge, the lovely con concierge Jessie at the hotel gave us a great run down in town and suggested places to get tailored dresses and suits made. They are still closed until Feb 10 with Tet but we are hoping to get a few items made. Why not right!!!
She also gave us a map of the ATMs and where the night market is. IT's open daily from 5-12pm and lanterns are put into the River so we definitely wanted to check that out!
We walked to the bridge to find cash, and the scooters are crazy! Now you have more tourists and locals zooming around - which I think is even more scary! Tourists aren't as seasoned at the art of driving these zipping little life takers. Maybe it's because I was in a really bad bicycle accident and I skidded out on my Vespa once, so I know the pain two wheels can cause! I'm trying to loosen up. Keenan's hand gets a good squish each time a honk honk comes up from behind us. These scooters are pushy!
We took money out (after crossing the busy main road near the bridge) and then decided to go back to a river front restaurant as a bunch of them had Vegetarian options! I could eat!!!! We had an appetizer of White Roses (a shrimp and pork white rose shaped rice/tapioca paper roll, and Mark had a Fish and the boys ate calamari. I had a veggie dish and then ordered the Tofu with lemongrass and chilli. I was starving! We had a couple of cheap beers too. And the kids had mango Lassis.
We then went to hotel and had a swim in the pool! So fun. It's cold but so nice! In the middle of the rooms. Kids and I napped and Mark read. The deal was we couldn't be mad when he woke us up. We were not wanted to get up an hour later, but we did. This jet lag is killer.
We then took a shuttle to the bridge and then walked to the night market! ITS AMAZING! Lantern boats, and lantern lit restaurants and street food!!
We also got Keenan some real fake Nikes with the swoosh sticker and everything! Sadly, we were wstill super tired and hungery but he needed shoes as he only had his winter boots or flip flops so we splurged on some $40 US FAKE Nikes. Oh well, they look pretty cool. Dev saw some good looking fake Yeezys (Kanye West's thousand dollar shoes in the market as well! Too funny).
We found an amazing restaurant - best food yet! Vy's Market restaurant and Cooking School (https://tastevietnam.asia/vys-market-restaurant-hoi-an) in the night market. The boys tried shrimp screwered on sugar cane and I discovered Cau Lau noodles. SO GOOD. We had seen them being dried out around the streets of Hoi An but I had no idea they were so delicious!!!
After the restaurant we decided to try some real street food. Desert was banana pancakes from a street vendor. Delish! She cooked them up good and I even haggled the price a little. I hate haggling! She wanted to charge us 30 000 for a pancake but I got us 2 for 50 000. I'm sure it was still high but they were incredible.
We then walked home stopping in the odd store and checking out what's for sale in the stalls. It's an interesting place. I didn't expect to see Dream Catchers for sale - that's for sure!
