Koh Samui and the stink of sewage

Well our first hotel room had a terrible smell. The bathroom was filled with a horrid stench of sewage. The Friendly Lotus then moves us to another room, saying themat the hotel behind them has a sewage problem and it’s happened before.
So we go out for dinner and the street wreaks of sewage waste. At points in the road it’s unbearable. There are a bunch of open cafes (where food is over priced) that we may have considered but the smell is awful.

I was research how sewage is treated on the island because there was not a lot of fish on this beach front - in fact we saw three dead fish. Apparently the septic tanks can’t hold all the sewage and it’s leaking into lakes and rivers. So sad as this effects the environment terribly and in turn tourism which will make this place a ghost town - but then they’ll be less sewage which could be a blessing for the environment. Really wish there could be a better balance.
