Bum Guns

Bum guns 

So our very nice air bnb host told us we can’t use toilet paper on Koh Tao cause the pipe are all very small so we’d need to use the “bum gun”. She assured us it’s very clean. 

Basically after you go to the washroom you have to spray yourself, with the hose and then if you choose to use the toilet paper to dry yourself you put it into the waste bin (ewwwwwww - I am having a hard time finding this “clean”. However the bum guns only have one setting for temperature which seems to be cold/cool. Needless to say I no longer need a regular shower to wake me up, as a spray down under certainly does the trick! 

Note to self: look into the sewage systems of Thailand. I have a feeling a lot of the sewage is not treated and they discourage the toilet paper as the raw sewage might just end up in the ocean. I hope this isn’t true but who knows? We’ve seen a lot of waste in water through South East Asia, but Thailand is certainly the most westernized and advanced (or so it seems). 

On the scuba boat the toilet would flush right into he ocean so they wanted us not to go over dive sites. Sadness.
