Vietnam Massage with cupping!

Well that was a first! Just had a Vietnamese Massage with cupping at Serene Shining Spa. It’s a lovely spa on the second door of a hotel which is located down a small and somewhat dodgy looking street. They were awesome and got me in for 5pm today (I went in at 3:30pm. When I said I wanted a medium strength massage the nice woman suggested the Vietmese massage which includes cupping. All I could think of was Michael Phelps bruises back at the Olympics. I was like will I be bruised? I can totally see myself getting thee cup bruises all over my back - a great look for the beach!

As the massage started I thought there was two people working on my back, the. I realized it was her knees in my butt and hands working my back. It was great! A nice firm pressure and definitely a first! Then I heard slapping coming from another room and was like thank god I disn’t Sign up for that, though I was still worried about how this cupping would turn out. After climbing off me she gave me a lovely medium firm massage very relaxing and helped losen my muscles.

Then it began the slapping! I started chuckling to myself because of course none
Of the descriptions mentioned the slapping! It was actually not as bad as it sounded. I couldn’t help but chuckle as she slapped me.

Then the cupping. I could hear the changing of glasses and then the ssssssssssss sound of a flame lit. I closed my eyes and hopes for the best! The cup went down on my back then she slid it down and “pop” off it went. Over and over this cup, slide pop! She was very good and asked if I was okay. The lady at the front today her it was my first time, and they said I could just tell her to stop. It was pretty good! I did it! I survived cupping - now let’s see if I bruise tomorrow or not! Lol

The massage ended in much the same way I was used to, you turn over and a towel covers your top as she massages my arms and legs, and finally neck and head. There were a few more slaps to my forehead which was a little different. All in all I would totally recommend this place! It’s beautiful once you get there, though leaving through the alley road after I passed a man peeing on the wall. I picked up the pace for sure! Yikes!

Before the massage I found a nice little place for a pedicure. The young women who worked there all had funny name tags on like Banana, Dolphin and Mickey. The young lady who did my nails was probably between 15-16 years old. A very nice person who did a great job on my nails. She cut a lot
Of the dead skin away around the toe nail egde (glad I got my hep shots) and then she put a lime on the toe nails. It was super interesting. I noticed a young girl on the opposite couch practicing with the cutters on the outside of a lime.

They did the whole pedicure in the lobby of the spa (Lotus Spa I think it was called). They bring a bucket of hot water with rose petals in it to soak you feet in the front. Such a unique experience. The totally cost was $180000 (about $8 us). I gave her a tip of about $1.25 (so I paid total 200000), Mickey was over the moon! She was so excited and happy to get the tip!

Of course it was 4:55pm when I finished and the massage was at 5 and I had paid $100000 deposit so I ran back to the spa. It’s so lucky I didn’t get lost! This area has streets and alleys that zig zag a lot!

It was a great experience finding all these little luxuries alone in Hue! And now I have beautiful lucky red toe nails for the new year and possibly some amazing circular bruises!
