The Hải Vân Pass - cows, goats, and lots of scooters!

Our lovely driver Gon took us over the The Hải Vân Pass on route to Hue. It’s insane! We stoped several times for photos, and Gon knew a great spot on top of a rock to stop. His advice “do not buy anything” at this stop. Gorgeous views! We also stopped at an old bunker at the top of the mountain that the Americans had used. It was full of bullet holes.
Keenan wanted to jump and do pakora at this site as there was lots to explore, but we held him
Back as it wasn’t meant of that and certainly wasn’t safe to climb or go into the sunken rooms he was finding. Great views and incredible history.
The pass is full of waterfalls, and the occasional cow climbing the road so drive safe! There are insane amounts of scooters and we even saw a goat lying on the railing fence. Crazy goat we said!

At the bottom of the pass we stopped by a lagoon famous for oyster farming. We discovered tons of hermit crabs in the water. So fun. Gon then took us into Hue to our hotel which is in the heart of Hue tourist district. Lots of backpackers. The hotel is cheap and has good food, in a central area. Beds are comfy too! Went for a pasta dinner at Risotto just around the corner and it was delicious! Best pizza and pasta we’ve found! Needed a small break from rice, pho and noodles.
